The Ethereum Foundation has accomplished significant milestones as it moves closer to the highly anticipated 'Glamsterdam' upgrade, which is slated for deployment in the third quarter of 2026. These achievements include establishing a robust 200 million gas limit floor, finalizing the Ethereum Improvement Proposal (EIP) 8037, and appointing a new leadership team for its Protocol division.

In a blog post released on Monday, the Ethereum Foundation proudly announced the achievement of a 'credible post-Glamsterdam target.' The introduction of a gas limit that significantly exceeds the current threshold of 60 million is expected to enhance the network's performance and speed, effectively preparing it for the surge in demand and transaction volume that lies ahead.

Originally slated for a June rollout, the Glamsterdam upgrade has been readjusted for a later launch, with the Foundation now targeting the third quarter of 2026. This upgrade is pivotal, focusing on refining the Ethereum layer-1 chain’s transaction processes and database management. By fundamentally reshaping the way Ethereum creates and verifies blocks, Glamsterdam sets the stage for unprecedented scalability and efficiency, as highlighted on the Ethereum Foundation's official website.

The Foundation's blog post also indicated ongoing efforts toward another major upgrade, Hegotà, and affirmed progress on its ambitious Strawmap, which aims to prepare Ethereum for the challenges of quantum computing.

In parallel with these advancements, the Ethereum Foundation confirmed the stabilization of the enshrined Proposer-Builder Separation (ePBS) system. This innovative approach allows validators to delegate block-building tasks to specialized builders, strengthening the network’s security while maintaining its operational efficiency.

EIP-8037, which has now been finalized, introduces a refined pricing model for data storage. The proposal effectively increases costs associated with state creation operations, thereby preventing excessive growth in state under the higher block gas limits expected post-upgrade.

Accompanying these technical milestones is a significant shift in the Ethereum Foundation's leadership. Will Corcoran, Kev Wedderburn, and Fredrik have stepped in as the new leads for the Protocol team, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the Foundation. This transition follows the departures of prominent developers Barnabé Monnot and Tim Beiko, alongside Alex Stokes, who is on sabbatical. Corcoran conveyed optimism about this leadership transition on social media, emphasizing the goal of enhancing Ethereum’s distinctive features for users while fostering a collaborative development environment.

As Ethereum continues its evolution, the excitement surrounding the Glamsterdam upgrade and the strategic direction of its leadership team underscore the platform's commitment to innovation and user accessibility.
